Voter Registration
In order vote in an election, you must be registered to vote 30 days prior. You may register to vote any time in person or
through the mail. Once issued, voter registration does not have to be renewed. However, if your
name or address changes, you must re-register.
To register by mail print out and complete the
Texas Voter
Registration Application (PDF). Don't forget to sign and date it. Mail it to your
county clerk’s office or local Texas Department of Public Safety driver license office. You can
also register at your county clerk’s office or local Texas Department of Public Safety driver
license office.
To vote in a particular election, you must submit your registration application so that your
county’s voter registrar receives it 30 days before the election day. (Mail-in registrations must
be postmarked by the 30-day deadline. A deadline that falls on a weekend or state or national
holiday is extended to the next regular business day.)
You should receive a voter registration card within three to four weeks after sending your
registration application. Examine the card closely and sign it if everything is correct. Return an
incorrect card to the registrar with the correction noted.
It’s a good idea to take your voter registration card to the polls, but you can also show
another form of identification (such as a driver license) to be allowed to vote.
Voting is one of your most important civic duties, so be sure to get registered!
