Paraprofessional
Author Peggy A. Hammeken has put together an excellent resource called Inclusion:
An Essential Guide for the Paraprofessional, which provides an
overview of guidelines, strategies and ideas to implement in the classroom. Hammekens' book offers the following practical suggestions.
-
Supply inclusion students with things-to-do-today lists on a daily
basis.
- Help special education students with organizational skills by making
them simplified maps of the the school or creating color-coded folders
for each subject.
- Interpret oral presentations that are in lecture format by listening
to the lecture, simplifying vocabulary words, writing down the goals and
objectives of the lesson and discussing them before students begin the
assignments.
