A Family Reunion
Join us at ATPE’s family reunion. ATPE members will gather March 25–27, 2010, at the Austin Convention Center for the 30th Annual ATPE State Convention—three days of association decision making, professional development and celebration of ATPE’s 30th anniversary.

Dear ATPE member:
On April 1, 1980, a group of Texas educators formed the Association of Texas Professional Educators. In doing so, they said “no” to the nation’s most powerful teachers’ union and “yes” to an organization that was member-owned and member-governed. No one knew whether this fledgling professional association would succeed, but ATPE’s founding members were committed to offering their colleagues a positive, professional alternative to membership in a national labor union. These educators shepherded ATPE through its tough early years, when money was so tight that members had to open their personal checkbooks to pay for the printing of membership brochures.
Thirty years later, we know that ATPE has survived and thrived. I invite you to join me in celebrating the foresight of ATPE’s founding members during the 30th Annual ATPE State Convention, March 25–27 in Austin. We will embody ATPE’s values when we convene as the ATPE House of Delegates and make important decisions about our association’s future. With our philosophy as a foundation, we will build the ATPE of tomorrow.
—ATPE State President Sam Spurlock, Olney ISD
