State Committee Service

For information about 2025-26 ATPE State Committees, please click here or review the committee descriptions below. Only currently active members can serve on an ATPE committee.

Committee Descriptions

This committee reviews and makes recommendations regarding association programs related to the identification, recruitment, training, maintenance, and recognition of ATPE’s volunteer leader corps.
Time Commitment: Meets virtually in October and April for approximately three hours per meeting.

This committee discusses and reviews ATPE’s membership recruitment program, membership materials, and services and discounts.
Time Commitment: Two-year term; meets virtually in October and April for approximately two hours per meeting.

This committee reviews the current ATPE state officer election rules, makes recommended changes to the rules, and assists in recruiting nominees for state office. The committee also assists with the verification of delegates on-site at the ATPE Summit in July.
Time Commitment: Meets twice virtually (fall and spring).

This committee reviews and makes recommendations for changes to ATPE’s Legislative Program, which is then approved by the ATPE House of Delegates (HOD) at the ATPE Summit in July. The ATPE Lobby Team uses the program to help influence positive change regarding public education policy in the Texas Legislature, in the U.S. Congress, and with boards and agencies.
Time Commitment: Two-year term; meets virtually several times throughout the year.

This committee discusses ATPE-PAC revenue and expenditures, plus election results for PAC-supported candidates. Committee members brainstorm PAC fundraising strategies and review ATPE’s recognition programs for PAC donors.
Time Commitment: Meets virtually once per year or as needed.

This committee reviews ATPE’s current and standing resolutions and proposes recommendations to be considered by the House of Delegates, which meets annually at the ATPE Summit in July.
Time Commitment: Meets virtually in March.

This committee reviews ATPE’s publications, website and online presence, and media coverage. The committee also reviews the finalists for the Alafair Hammett Media Award and recommends a winner. The Alafair Hammett Media Award is given annually at the ATPE Summit in July.
Time Commitment: Meets virtually in January and April for approximately two hours per meeting.

This committee reviews applications for the EOY Awards. Committee members interview finalists and select winners virtually in the spring.
Time Commitment: One virtual meeting in April (approximately five hours) and eight hours to review and score applicants.

This committee reviews and scores applications for Local Unit of the Year and Campus Representative of the Year. Committee members interview finalists and select winners virtually in the spring.
Time Commitment: One virtual meeting in April (approximately five hours) and eight hours to review and score applicants.

This committee advises ATPE staff on keynote and professional learning programming for ATPE’s annual conference. Committee members also evaluate professional learning breakout session proposals.
Time Commitment: Two virtual meetings in the fall and approximately 10 hours to review and score session proposals.

How to apply for state committee service

ATPE opens applications for committee service in two waves (August and November).

Use the form below to apply to serve on the following ATPE standing committees: Leader Development, Legislative, Membership, and Nomination/Election. These committees will hold their first meetings in the fall.

The deadline to submit your application is Aug. 31.
