The Association of Texas Professional Educators, Texas' largest professional association for public school employees, seeks a goal-driven, service-oriented, dynamic professional for our Grassroots Advocacy Specialist in the Central Texas area.

The Grassroots Advocacy Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as point person and primary contact person within the Governmental Relations department regarding member-focused initiatives to increase grassroots advocacy. Such initiatives will include outreach, recruitment, and training on ATPE advocacy initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing awareness, fundraising, and donor recognition initiatives for a political action committee and serving as the staff liaison for the political action committee.
  • Assisting with execution of the department’s strategic plan, including through participation in ATPE events.
  • Assisting in the implementation of department projects and administrative activities, including but not limited to supporting related ATPE committees, bill tracking, and data entry.

The Grassroots Advocacy Specialist may also assist with Governmental Relations-related member communications.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree and fundraising experience, as well as computer competency and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ideal candidate should be experienced in developing and implementing targeted communication initiatives. Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of public education issues and basic familiarity with ethics laws and rules pertaining to PACs are highly preferred. Knowledge of legislative processes and experience with legislative tracking services such as Telicon is preferred. One year of project management experience is preferred. Bilingual preferred. The Grassroots Advocacy Specialist position will be based within the Central Texas area.

The Association of Texas Professional Educators, Texas' largest professional association for public school employees, seeks an experienced, goal-driven, service-oriented, dynamic professional for our Membership Specialist I position for the following areas:

  • Bayou

The Membership Specialist I responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as the primary field staff focused on recruiting and retaining association members in the recruitment area assigned, monitoring the activity indicators of active local units using various reports, and identifying and proactively assisting local units in recruiting new members.
  • Initiating contact with non-members, school campus and independent school district personnel, and others, in assigned ISDs with no active local unit to prospect and promote interest in organizing prospective local units.
  • Working with internal association support staff to outline annual metrics and incentive-based numerical goals related to recruitment and retention of members.
  • Working with assigned active local volunteers to identify and train new volunteer leaders who will represent the association at the local district level. Additionally, the Membership Specialist I may provide organizational support to assigned local units in the areas of communication, school board relations, and general local unit operational logistics.

Minimum requirements include a college degree along with proven association membership growth and retention experience; superior communication, presentation, and organizational skills; and excellent PC skills (Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of Texas education issues, be detail-oriented with a strong work ethic, and be flexible and comfortable with shifting priorities. Sales experience is a plus. The position requires extensive travel within the territory and the ability to work from a home office. The Membership Specialist I position will be based within the designated recruitment area.
