This year, the ATPE Summit is on the road to Dallas! We asked ATPE members to share their favorite Dallas sights and activities to help you prepare for adventure!


Museums

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

“We’re never too old to learn! The Perot Museum always has the most interesting exhibits. Plus, it’s free with your teacher ID!!” –Betty McCoy, Ferris ATPE

“An amazing place of discovery from prehistoric to modern with amazing hands-on exhibits. The best part of this museum is that for teachers it is FREE, so don’t forget to bring your badges from your school.” –John Fore, Dallas ATPE

Sixth Floor Museum

This museum, which explores the assassination and legacy of John F. Kennedy, is a “great place for history buffs.” –Betty McCoy, Ferris ATPE

Dallas Museum of Art

If you’re an art lover, you don’t want to miss this stop! The Dallas Museum of Art has more than 24,000 pieces. Plus, it’s FREE! Forney ATPE’s Wendy Smith says it’s “a great place to visit.”

Dallas World Aquarium

“Four stories of tropical birds, animals, plants, and adventure awaits!” –John Fore, Dallas ATPE


Outdoor Activities

Klyde Warren Park

“Klyde Warren Park is a local public downtown park with food trucks, daily concerts, yoga, and museums next door. This park has a vast amount of things to do, including walking, biking, and taking part in their events.” –Katy Matthews, Plano ATPE

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The Dallas Arboretum contains more than 66 acres of landscaped beauty, including 20 individual gardens. Check out their events and art exhibits while you’re there!

Shopping and Eating

Deep Ellum

This iconic Dallas neighborhood, now a trendy dining and shopping location, has a rich history in Texas music and arts.

Trinity Groves

“Trinity Groves is a stylish restaurant marketplace that features fish, BBQ, Asian fusion, and a few other options. You can see the skyline view, the spanning Trinity River, and access to trails in the river basin below. The vast patio has great spots for pictures!” –Katy Matthews, Plano ATPE

McKinney Avenue

“This area is full of restaurant, bars, and fun! It reminds me of Austin’s Sixth Street. Find a local trolley to take you around the area.” –Katy Matthews, Plano ATPE

West End

Dallas’s West End is where you’ll find many of the city’s best-known museums. Its rich history makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. Plus, according to Ferris ATPE’s Betty McCoy, it has “restaurants galore!”
