ATPE is proud to bring you this series of posts from our staff members. Today’s post features ATPE’s accounts payable/general ledger assistant, Stephanie Williams.

What drew you to working at ATPE?

I actually started working here as a temp.

How long have you been working at ATPE? What was your first job here?

My first job here was a temp job in the data processing department. I entered the applications as they came in.

I was then hired on full time in November 1990 as the assistant to the data processing supervisor. After a couple of years, I moved into the Accounting Department handling accounts receivable. Then I moved into the accounts payable position about a year after that, and I’ve been in that position ever since. I’ve been with ATPE almost 28 years! Now that former deputy executive director Alan Bookman is gone, I’ve been here the longest of all the staff.

What is the most important thing you have learned while working here?

That teachers need more pay and the support of our association. I never realized how much the teachers have to deal with other than teaching our children.

What is your favorite part of working for ATPE?

The people. I’ve made some really great friends over the years.

Share something fun about yourself that members might not know.

I’m actually a shy person if I don’t know the people I’m around. But once I get to know you, I open up more! That being said, I’m a huge fan of Longhorn Football. I get really excited and vocal while watching the games.
