Date Posted: 12/09/2020
With winter break approaching, it’s a great time to make sure you’re keeping up with your continuing professional education (CPE) credits. Luckily, ATPE has recently added three new courses to our Professional Learning Portal.
Check out these three sessions from SXSW EDU 2020.
A Science of Human Motivation for the Next Decade
What will the future of educational research look like? In the past decade, scientists have shown definitively that people’s mindsets—their beliefs about themselves and their place in the world—can shape motivation and enhance learning. The next decade will be about using this knowledge to make lasting changes in teaching and learning contexts and to reduce achievement disparities at scale. In the context of what we have achieved, this session unveils grand challenges for the future and shows how scientists and practitioners will work together to solve them.
Border Crossing & Sacred Stories
Three authors reflect on borders in their work as told through ancestral stories and legendary heroes. In a moderated panel, these authors share how ancient knowledge and epic histories shaped their stories and explore ways that different cultures pass down their stories. Participants will hear a lively discussion about the intersection of borders between the living and the dead, between countries, between people, and between narrative structures and sometimes magic.
Masters of Practice
What is the future of teaching? As connectivity continues to impact how we learn, teachers are emerging as global influencers and thought leaders. Join an all-star, teacher-only panel of some of the biggest minds in classroom practice. These currently working, trailblazing teachers (featured by outlets such as The New York Times, Forbes, NBC, The Washington Post, TED, Wired, and NPR) are writing the script for how teachers can—and should—impact education in the 21st century.
