Keeping up with your teaching certification is just as important as ever—but COVID-19 restrictions and pressures may have limited in-person professional learning opportunities. Lucky for you, your ATPE membership has you covered. The ATPE Professional Learning (PL) Portal is an amazing member resource for earning continuing professional education (CPE) credits—and there are now over 90 on-demand courses available to you as part of your annual membership!

We’ve just added eight videos from the 2020 ATPE Summit and this year’s webinars. Some of the recently added courses include:

Nurturing the Nurturers: Teacher Self-Care
Join Joycelyn Jurado and Natalie Richardson with It’s Time Texas for a discussion about self-care. This session focuses on honoring where you are and what you need, finding a rhythm and community that works for you, and making time for self-care and your health.

What to Expect When You’re Expected to Teach Gifted Students
In this session with Kari Lockhart from TAGT, participants will learn about key components of the who, what, why, and how behind gifted-and-talented services, as well as strategies for navigating the GT classroom.

Remote Learning EdTech Smackdown
Looking for tools to help you with remote learning? Join TCEA’s Diana Benner and Miguel Guhlin as they share their favorite and most useful tools for distance teaching and learning.

Flip the Switch: Developing Confident Writers
Melissa Williams Murphy with iWRITE will lead you in discovering how to unleash a student’s imagination and turn a reserved student into a confident writer with an eagerness to share their voice with others. Learn how the method behind iWRITE creates a fun and positive association with writing and turns underdeveloped writers into published authors and public speakers.

Story Wranglers
The Paramount Story Wranglers is a troupe of professional teaching artists, actors, and musicians who teach the foundations of creative writing and performance throughout Austin ISD. Join Literacy to Life Program Director Mitch Harris to learn the creative teaching strategies that have 98% of teachers replicating the strategies in other content areas, have students performing (on average) 13% better on their STAAR writing tests, and ultimately shift campus culture in regard to reading and writing!

Launching Rockets: Making Connections with Challenging Students
Some students’ stories have made them hard to connect with and difficult to reach. They are often written off as “bad kids” or “too far gone.” However, by finding authentic ways to engage them in the classroom, as well as learning their stories and building relationships, connections can be made with the most difficult students. This talk by Trevor Muir (which was the opening keynote at the summit) is part inspirational and part instructional as it shares teaching practices that create an engaged and meaningful classroom for all students. Trevor is a teacher, international speaker, and author of The Epic Classroom and The Collaborative Classroom. He is a professor at Grand Valley State University, a former faculty member for the Buck Institute for Education, and one of the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation speakers.
