Start with Hello to help put an end to social isolation in schools
Date Posted: 2/28/2022
Sandy Hook Promise and the Texas School Safety Center have partnered to provide a no-cost program for students to combat loneliness and make connections. The program is titled Start with Hello, and it is part of Sandy Hook’s Know the Signs series that is designed to teach students and educators ways to prevent violence in schools and use early-prevention measures to help keep schools and communities safe.
Start with Hello is all about learning to reach out and help students who are feeling alone or being bullied in schools. It encompasses three simple steps to minimize social isolation:
Step 1: See someone alone
Step 2: Reach out and help
Step 3: Start with “Hello”
This two-and-a-half-hour virtual training uses the Sandy Hook Promise’s Digital Learning Center to introduce students to instructional strategies focused on building inclusive school communities and engaging in meaningful connections with their peers.
The Start with Hello program is open to all Texas public ISDs, and it consists of a wide range of activities and resources for students of all ages—broken into two sections: K-5 and 6-12. Find more information and register by visiting the TxSSC website.
