The 2022 ATPE Summit featured excellent speakers, elections, and an exhilarating trip back to the ’80s!

ATPE members and staff from all over Texas gathered July 6–8 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine.

On the first day, attendees were treated to the opening keynote speaker, Alex Sheen, founder of the nonprofit Because I said I would. After the keynote, it was a flashback to the ’80s for the awards reception, which featured arcade machines, great food, a DeLorean ripped right out of Back to the Future, and, of course, awards!

Thursday’s busy schedule included the House of Delegates, region caucuses, and state officer elections. The HOD elected the following as ATPE’s 2022-23 state officers:

  • President: Stacey Ward, Humble
  • Vice President: Jayne Serna, Leander
  • Secretary: Jason Forbis, Midway (12)
  • Treasurer: Jerrica Liggins, Paris

These four officers join Immediate Past State President Karen Hames, Lewisville. Their terms begin Aug. 1.

Evening excursions then commenced: a trip to AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys; a dining and walking tour of Grapevine’s Main Street; or exploring Grapevine or the resort on your own.

Friday offered several professional learning lectures and concluded with the final keynote speaker, Dr. Jill Siler, author of Thrive Through the Five. With that, the 2022 ATPE Summit came to an end, completing an eventful week and kicking off the road to back to school.
