If your summer plans need some more adventure, look no further than the 2023 ATPE Summit, taking place July 10–12 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock. But don’t delay—the delegate certification and housing deadline is June 9, just one week away. 

All ATPE members are invited to attend this three-day conference filled with inspiring keynotes, curated professional learning sessions, and opportunities to relax and recharge: 

• Author Monica Genta will present “180 Days of Awesome.” Monica’s goal is to transform teachers, leaders, and schools from seeing education as an ordinary job into an extraordinary adventure. Monica feels every person who walks into a school deserves to love their experience! She is a believer in finding awesome and celebrating life every day. Monica is a classroom teacher of 14 years and the author of five books, including Game Changers, 180 Days of Awesome, and The Rooted Classroom. Monica will do a book signing immediately following her presentation.  

• Jim “The Rookie” Morris will share “Remember Who You Are.” Jim’s Cinderella story serves as testimony to the power of dreams and their ability to inspire and transform human life. His meteoric rise from 35-year-old high school teacher to flame-throwing major league pitcher in three months made cinematic history with the release of The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid. Jim will share the importance of integrity and personal authenticity in all circumstances—both when others are watching and when they are not. Using his personal story as an example, Jim will share the principle of keeping your promises and the value of being a person of your word. Jim will do a book signing immediately following his presentation. (Jim Morris’ appearance has been arranged through Gotham Artists.) 

• The ATPE Governmental Relations team will recap the 88th Legislature and however many special sessions we’ve had by July, as well as present the latest information on ATPE’s federal advocacy efforts.

The summit agenda is busy, but it’s not so packed that you won’t have plenty of time to enjoy all that Kalahari has to offer. Kalahari’s Round Rock resort is America’s largest indoor resort waterpark and features a wave pool, adult swim-up bar, and waterfalls, as well as Tom Foolery’s Adventure Park, 80,000 square feet of thrill rides, 250+ arcade games, a ropes course, climbing walls, and indoor zip line, bowling, laser tag, mini golf and more. Resort dining options range from affordable quick bites to four signature full-service restaurants offering premium steaks, Italian classics, Tex-Mex, and gourmet burgers and decadent milkshakes. 

Per the ATPE State Bylaws, only local unit and region presidents may register attendees for the ATPE Summit. The delegate certification and housing deadline is Friday, June 9, so contact your president today to attend. (If your district has an active ATPE local unit, contact your local unit president; if not, contact your region president.) The registration price is $225 through June 9 and includes access to all general sessions, professional learning breakouts, volunteer training sessions, and the House of Delegates. (If you will be attending the House of Delegates only, there is no registration fee.) 

After June 9, the fee increases to $235, and you may not be certified as a voting delegate. In addition, the ATPE room block at Kalahari closes June 9.  

Please note that a separate $60 ticket is required for the Under the Stars Welcome Reception.
