<p>Carrie Becker, a technology educator for Lewisville ISD&rsquo;s Lamar Middle School, was recently honored with the Secondary Educator of the Year Award from the Association of Professional Educators (ATPE).</p>
<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s plain and simple,&rdquo; Becker said. &ldquo;I offer all students a safe, fun, and exciting place to learn. My classroom is flexible and students are engaged with interested learning activities. It&rsquo;s not only my job, it&rsquo;s my duty to offer enriching, engaging lessons for my kids.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Becker was presented with a plaque and a $5,000 check at the 2016 ATPE Summit Awards Banquet held at the Austin Convention Center. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor&rsquo;s in business in marketing.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We are proud and excited to be able to recognize outstanding educators who have shown their commitment to furthering public education,&rdquo; ATPE Executive Director Gary Godsey said.</p>
<p>Nearly 1,000 educators from across the state celebrated the achievements of public school employees at the banquet. With more than 100,000 members statewide, ATPE is the state&rsquo;s largest educator group and the voice of public education.</p>
