River Trails Elementary Teacher Awarded by ATPE

Christopher Adams, a fifth-grade teacher from Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, was recently honored with the Elementary Educator of the Year Award from the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE). Adams was presented with the award, plus a $5,000 check, at the 2017 ATPE Summit Awards Banquet held at the Austin Convention Center on July 11.

“Being an educator allows me to serve my true purpose,” Adams said. “The art of teaching does not come easy, but I have been blessed with the knowledge and skills necessary to connect with students that are often forgotten, overlooked, or labeled as unable to pass the test. I’ve had the privilege to teach a variety of students from all walks of life. Together we not only learn but we excel as a family.”

“We are proud and excited to recognize outstanding educators who have shown their commitment to furthering public education,” ATPE Executive Director Gary Godsey said.

Adams graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s in fine arts, and from Lamar University with a master’s in education in administration. He has worked in education for almost 14 years.

The awards banquet recognized educators who have demonstrated exceptional and innovative skills in their respective education fields. More than 800 Texas educators celebrated the achievements of public school employees at the event.
