ATPE hosts 'Shoot for the STAARs Education Day'

March 11, 2014: Texas elementary school students are tested in core subject areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies through the STAAR exams. In order to help Houston-area students in grades 3-5 prepare for their upcoming tests, the Texas Southern University (TSU) chapter of ATPE is hosting a free event Saturday, March 15.

ATPE Foundation Golf Tournament raises $50K plus for public education

October 31, 2012: The Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) Foundation welcomed its largest turnout to its third annual golf tournament on Oct. 26 at the Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock. More than 90 educators and public education advocates traveled from across the state to the Austin area to participate in this fundraising event.

State's top teachers value mentoring, training, public support

September 17, 2013: More training and support from school districts, administrators and teacher preparation programs will help retain better teachers in the classroom, according to a 2012-13 Texas Regional Teachers of the Year focus group report. The 17 teachers who participated in the focus groups recommend that every campus in the state have a teacher mentoring program, develop programs to bring the community into the classrooms and that teacher preparation programs allow student teachers more time in the classroom to observe teaching in action.
